History of LED
The LED (Light Emitting Diode) is the light source of the future. LED light is generated with a high luminous efficiency and thereby a low energy consumption. The LED offers a number of other positive characteristics. 1962 was General Electric with the first red LED on the market. Approximately 10 years later by colors such as green, orange and yellow. Operation of the LED

Aging and lifespan of the LED
For standard LED lifetimes of up to 100,000 hours (approx. 11.5 years light duration) can be achieved. The lifetime of high-efficiency LED is ca.25'000 - 50,000. For details of life are average values. That is, after the specified service life is 50% of 100% must be on. The end of life of the LED is achieved if it has only 50% of the luminosity. The lifetime is generally dependent on the LED on various factors. A strongly fluctuating ambient temperature will shorten the life, as well as to high currents and voltages.
